Uppsala University and Domkyrka (Cathedral)

31 January 2018

A school excursion trip to Uppsala University, the first university in Sweden that was built in 1477. Uppsala is an hour's drive from Stockholm. Totally recommend anyone to visit the first building of the university. The first building built in 1477 has now become a museum. Uppsala is beautiful during the winter.

Ta-da, the gorgeous university! I heard that this university is more authentic than Stockholm University.

From the steps of the main Uppsala University building, one can see the Church / Cathedral , one of the finest in Sweden. The Bishop stayed here and because the Church played a vital role in Sweden back then, he decided that the university is built in Uppsala. I just googled the difference between a church and a cathedral.

A church is a term that refers to a Christian houses of worship, while a cathedral is a church which is the site of a bishop for churches that have them. Churches can be found anywhere, in both small towns and big cities, while cathedrals are usually found only in cities. Source from Difference Between.

A visit to the University Museum which is located in the 1477-building.

A notebook of one of the students in Latin because that was the Cathedral's language.

A cupboard gifted to King Gustav Vasa (the first King of Sweden) from a town in Germany. It was nicknamed 'internet' because one could find objects inside each drawer. It enhances knowledge. They found 200 drawers and there is a possibility of more.

This is the Anatomical Theatre. It was used for about 100 years as one and animals were mostly dissected. It is only used during winter as it will be super cold and removes any foul odour. It was also very cold as I stepped in. As winter has limited light hours, many windows were built which were expensive then.

Now, to go inside the Cathedral which is just opposite the 1477-building.

The end of the school excursion.
