Tastebud : Hemma hos Dong

15 February 2023

Time for my first gastronomy experience of the year - Chinese food at Hemma hos Dong. There are many Chinese restaurants in Stockholm but I would like to find that is affordable and in a small place. I was very surprised to find a place with very good ratings which is very close to Lilla Kina that I went last year

The restaurant opens at 5pm and I had booked a table for 5.30pm. By 6pm, the place was full. One has to book a table because the place has limited places and apparently, the food here tastes like home. Well, the food was quite spicy for my Swedish friends who despite the 2 chilli ratings on the dish, CHOSE that dish. I asked the staff if the spiciness can be reduced and she said yes but I forgot to tell her do it, assuming that she would reduced it. Haha! So, my Swedish friends took a slightly longer time to finish the food. As the place is small, it got noisy very quickly when the place is full and it was difficult to hear one another. We left the place after dinner to a nearby pub.

First dish - tofu skin in chilli oil for SEK79. This is a cold dish and is a form of appetiser. This is in a small bowl.

Second dish - braised beef in Sichuan soup for SEK249. This was really spicy and numbing. Can you see the Sichuan pepper in the soup?

Third dish - fried chicken pieces with peanuts for SEK189. The chicken pieces were yummy. The staff mentioned that this dish is one of the best sellers. I avoided picking the chilli seeds and dried pieces of chilli.

Each dish comes with a bowl of rice and for an additional rice portion, it costs SEK15.
